In order to ensure your public service announcement is advertised, WIZS has made a policy change. We will no longer accept hand written submissions. This change will ensure the on-air personalities will be able to read your announcement.

St. Augustine’s  College is holding an information session for new

degree programs on Saturday, May 24th

at the Gateway Community Deveolpment Corporation from 10am

The Northern Vance High School Choir will provide music at worship

at the First Presbyterian Church of Henderson, NC on 220 Young St.

on May 25th at 11am for free. This will be a wonderful chance to hear in

the context of worship, this great choir under Cindy Edwards.

Norlina Christian school on 301 Walker Ave. in Norlina is having a 

Yard Sale on Saturday, May 17th from 6am with a pancake and sausage

 breakfast all you can eat for $5.00 until 12pm.

Free tutoring service is being offered by Tondelayo A. Johnson

at 116 S. Bullock St in Henderson. Services offered in reading,

math, writing, etc. from 9am to 12 noon. Call 438-5254 for

AUCTION! Saturday May 17th at 10:00am at E.O. Young Elementary

School on U.S. 1 North, Middleburg, NC. They’ll have surplus vehicles,

and miscellaneous items. Call Kevin Perdue in the maintenance dept.

Elite Fashions and Hats Exravaganze  is being held on May 17th at 3pm

at the E.M. Rollins Elementary School. There is no

admission price, come and support this two part fund raiser so

assistance and various community outreach efforts can be met.

Part 1: A fashion show contest with many local contestants that need

your support and prayers-ages 1yr to 60+. “Mr. and Miss Elite Fashion

2008 title and crown will be given in four age categories.

Part 2: Hats on Parade: The public is invited to wear a dressy outfit

with a nice dressy hat. Judges will view them as you march in the

parade. Prizes will be given for a variety of hat styles. Youth 17yrs

and under may wear casual or dressy (modest) attire with a hat.

conviction of the person or persons responsible for the theft of a large

number of Potted Ferns and Blooming Plants in hanging baskets stolen

from store premise this past weekend (May 2nd, 3rd, and 4th).

Mrs. Juanita Jackson Adams, a native of Savannah, Georgia and a

graduate of Savannah State and Atlanta Universities will be the

Woman’s Day Speaker at Shiloh Baptist Church in Henderson on

Sunday, May18th during the 11am service. The public is invited

to attend.

Did you know summer months are most deadly for teen drivers?

According to AAA, crash deaths for teen drivers increase by nearly

20% in July and August. A teen driving study conducted by SADD

(Students Against Drunk Driving) showed that teens succumb to

more risky in-vehicle behavior during the summer months, including

driving with three or more passengers in the car and driving late

at night. Please consider increasing your support for the Youth

Reckless Driving Prevention UR the spokesperson campaign

this summer.

Get ready for summer reading! A summer book sale is being sponsored by

The Friends of the Library from April 22-May 17th. Every Tuesday

from 5pm-7pm and every Saturday from 1pm-5pm at the Gallery at

the library. They have children’s books, paperbacks, and books on tape!

All items are 50 cents! All proceeds will be used for the benefit of the H.

Leslie Perry Memorial Library.

VGCC is offering a variety of computer-related classes starting

in May on the college’s main campus in Vance Co. The “Beginner’s

Guide to Computers and Internet” course, The Office Assistant

course, Microsoft Word and Excel course, and Digital Photos and

Movie Maker course. Each course ranges from $55-$65, plus

The American Diabetes Association and the Juvenile Diabetes Research

Foundation International is encouraging everyone to have an A1C test

performed by their healthcare professional. This test lets patients and their

doctors know how well their diabetes is being controlled over a 3 month

period.

New Horizons Baptist Church in Oxford will be having its next big

fundraiser to benefit the Building Fund on Friday, May 30, at the

Oxford Armory. Like last year, they will be serving BBQ chicken

plates from 11am until 6pm. These plates are $6 a piece, and they

include chicken, potato salad, slaw and bread.
